Florida and kiteboarding walk hand in hand. With consistent winds, wide spaces and exciting waters, Florida has always been kiteboarders’ paradise. I just had my research on various kiteboarding spots and Florida happened to have a plenty of them. So just thought of filling you in as well so that you can get your bucket list ready.
1. Cocoa Beach, Cherie Down Park, East Coast Florida
A lovely seven-acre beach park with wide spreads of boardwalk with shelters for travellers. Well, that implies that this place is a pretty crowded one, specially, in the holiday seasons and weekends. Wondering what makes it still so popular for kiteboarders? This place is a magnificent combination of large winds, huge waves even on low tides. The kites are not dependent on the direction of the wind, a launch is easy from anywhere!’
2. Pompano, South Coast Florida
This place is a huge hit among extreme riders, who follow the rules. Having said extreme, the beach is packed with safety instructions and thereby need to adhere to successfully surf. Exciting conditions bring thrill when it comes to stunts and tricks for professionals.
3. Tampa, Treasure Islands, West Coast Florida
It’s time to make some newbie riders happy. Treasure Islands of Tampa will serve the best for beginners due to its large spaces. Not only wide spreads, the winds are also quite strong, which can help you to learn and develop the skill at the same time.
4. Naples, Tigertail Beach, West Coast Florida
Naples is my favourite spot for kiteboarding in Florida. Be it any style, this spot will never disappoint you. November through May is a good time to ride as high tide approaches. Clean waters and open spaces also attract beginners.
5. Lower Matecumbe Key
This key in Anne’s beach is a pretty good area for launch and has shallow waters. Riders getting started with the sport also prefer to enjoy this beach area. The flip side of the place is that it becomes quite crowdy with tourists on weekends, hence pre-occupied at times.
6. Cocoa Beach, 520 Slick, East Coast Florida
This place is strictly advised for extreme riders and professionals as it has a tricky launch space and requires great skill to get along with the beach for kiteboarding. Beginners don’t want to go here, due to its technicality, strong winds and mangroves!
7. Miami, Stiltsville
Firstly, this place has a mesmerizing view. Anybody will fall in love with it. Warm waters being flat and shallow, suit perfectly for new riders to take their classes and hone their skills. Wind conditions are also favourable for all kind of riders.
Conclusion
These were some of the attention-grabbing spots in Florida which you can surely add to your wish list. Not only for kiteboarding, but it’s an amazing state to travel and carry some happy moments in return. So, get ready kiteboarders, Florida is a must to experience once in a lifetime. Happy riding folks!
